Bet Maryam

A rather pretty church thought to be the first one built in Lalibela.  We were told that the pillar (pictured bottom right) is supposed to have been touched by Mary (or it might have been Jesus) and hence it is covered up - the guide books say it's because it's inscribed with the 10 Commandments. The picture on the bottom left shows a Star of David on the arch - very rare in a Christian church even an Ethiopian one.
