Bet Emanuel

A 12m high monolith cave church - the only church of its type in the south-eastern cluster - it is considered by historians to be the finest and most closely worked in Lalibela.  The woman below is praying outside the church - most people worship outside and rather than inside the church in Ethiopia.  In addition, if you get married outside the church you can get divorced if it doesn't work out but you can't if you get married inside.  Needless to say the majority of weddings are conducted outside the church - just in case!
