Lake Tana
Set at an altitude of 1,830m, Lake Tana is Ethiopia's largest lake with a surface area of 3,673 square metres and is also the source of the Blue Nile which supplies most of the water that flows into Egypt's Nile Valley. The papyrus boats, similar to those used in ancient Egypt, are still used as a form of transport and for fishing. They are in effect extremely unstable one-man canoes - ever the coward, I decided not to have a go.
